Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, has welcomed confirmation from Minister for Housing and Planning Alok Sharma MP, that the Government has provided an additional £275,000 of funding to support Cornwall Council in the delivery of the West Carclaze Garden Village.
Commenting, Steve said:
“I am pleased that the Government has provided £275k of funding to Cornwall Council to assist preparatory work to allow the new school and essential infrastructure at the Carclaze Eco-Town to proceed. This goes along with the previous £228,000 they provided in capacity funding for the garden village project in 2016/17.”
“My view has always been that while we do need to build houses to help solve the housing crisis for our young people, big developments such as this need to be appropriately sited and with the infrastructure in place to support them.”
“This development, on former industrial land and with a school and public amenity space attached and with the Carluddon Technology Park and it’s new jobs nearby , fits that criteria, and I am pleased to have worked with all involved to help bring it forward.”
“I will now continue to work with Cornwall Council and other stakeholders to ensure that the development delivers as promised, to ensure it is, along with the dedicated A30 link road, a new gateway to St Austell.”
