Statement on vote on Withdrawal Agreement

In Parliament tonight I voted against the Withdrawal Agreement for our Leaving the EU.”

“The result was 432 against to 202 for.”

“This result shows the strength of feeling against this deal in Parliament.”

“It is now up to the Prime Minister to come back to Parliament with an alternative in the next three working days.”

“I hope the EU has watched tonight’s events, seen the opposition to their position from Parliament and will now be prepared to think again on their negotiating stance.”

“The Labour Party has also tabled a motion of no confidence in the government. I will be supporting the government when this comes to a vote and still believe the best outcome is for the Prime Minister to go back to the EU and come back with a better deal to what has previously been offered.”
