Steve Double recently visited Mevagissey to meet with local activists and join in the Feast Week celebrations.
Steve said, 'I always look forward to joining the festivities in Mevagissey on Feast Week, and was delighted to join in with the singing as part of the St, Andrew's Church parade and then watch the Flora dance. Mevagissey is a real jewel in the crown of the St Austell and Newquay constituency and it is humbling to see the effort put in by local people, embodied by the many volunteers who come from all over the area to support the events and ensure a good time is had by all.'
''I was also pleased to meet with a number of residents who expressed concerns on a variety of issues affecting the village, including the ongoing problems with the Liberal Democtat and Independent led Cornwall Council's withdrawal of funding and enforced closure of the vital public toilets. With my past experience as Cabinet Member responsible for Environment on Cornwall Council, I am very much aware of the importance of facilities such as these and their place in communities such as Mevagissey, When I was in charge of these services at Cornwall Council we shut down no public amenities without local approval, and I will continue to champion this stance during my campaign to be elected as your Member of Parliament in 2015.'
