Early this week I met up with the Cornwall Blood Bikes. These are the volunteers who provide the Blood Bike service here in Cornwall.
I had always assumed the bikes we see on the roads with the Blood Bike logo were part of the NHS, but they aren’t.I suspect like many people I wasn’t aware that this service is provided by a charity and run by volunteers. These dedicated bike enthusiasts provide an essential service of transporting blood and other medical supplies around the country rushing whatever is needed to save lives and treat critically ill patients all over the country. This is done on a relay basis, last year that fulfilled 2143 jobs covering almost 63,000 miles.
The guys that provide this service in Cornwall base themselves at Chapter 1 Diner which is just off the A30 at Indian Queens next toDamerells Motorcycle centre. If you want to find out more about the Cornwall Freewheelers you can visit their website -http://cornwallbloodbikes.org/
If anyone is looking for a local charity to support or raise funds for I think it would be well worth supporting Cornwall Blood Bikes
