Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has handed in a petition on behalf of parents who home educate their children to Parliament.
The petition requests that the House of Commons urges the Government to withdraw the draft guidance on its consultation for home education and the consultation itself, until it has consulted with home educating parents, as it has with Local Authorities, on what the contents should include.
Commenting, Steve said:
“I have carried out a great deal of work on behalf of parents who for a variety of reasons, feel that educating their children at home is the best way to go.”
“I was therefore very concerned that it appears the Government in its consultation on home education appears to have ignored the very people that would be most affected by any changes.”
“This needs to be put right and I was pleased to represent the numerous people who signed the petition by handing it in to Parliament. I will continue to push for the consultation to be amended and a common sense solution found for this important issue.”
