Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, has hosted an event in Parliament that saw MPs, space industry leaders, Cornwall Council and Cornwall’s Local Enterprise Partnership come together to hear the case for Spaceport Cornwall.
Commenting, Steve said:
“The Space Industry Bill in March was a crucial milestone towards commercial space flight from the UK, and it’s vital we don’t lose momentum. I’m pressing Ministers to bring forward the necessary supplementary legislation and investment to pave the way for launch from Cornwall.”
“I was pleased to host this event yesterday and bring people from Cornwall and across the sector together in Parliament to make the case for Spaceport Cornwall.”
“I am pleased to see the will being there from Virgin Orbit, whose preferred UK destination is Cornwall Airport Newquay, and I have been watching with keen interest their recent progress with horizontal launch technology, its 'Cosmic Girl' plane with a rocket strapped to the bottom for the first time flown for the first time last week.”
“Bringing the spaceport here is the sensible and right thing to do and will unlock previously unheard of levels of investment and opportunity in Mid-Cornwall. I will continue to do all I can to make this happen.”
