Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has welcomed today’s Queen Speech as one that delivers for Mid-Cornwall through Brexit and beyond.
Commenting, Steve said:
“Today’s Queen’s Speech contains so many policies that will be of benefit for Mid-Cornwall, and show that our Prime Minister Boris Johnson is more than following through on the promises made during the recent election campaign.”
“Getting Brexit Done by 31 January remains the top priority of this Government, changing the conversation from ‘when’ or ‘if’ we will leave the EU, to ‘what happens next’.”
“But once we have set this in motion, which we will start with this week, there are also many other important issues to address, and I was pleased to see so many of them included in the Queen’s Speech.”
“In particular I welcome the commitment to enshrine NHS funding increases in law, measures to support working families by reducing National Insurance and increasing the National Living Wage, measures to help new house buyers particularly to assist local first time buyers to get on the property ladder, as well as protect tenants, and reform of the justice system.”
“There will be a great deal to benefit the people of Cornwall in these policies and I look forward to working with my Cornish MP colleagues in the New Year to ensure we realise that potential.”
