Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, has welcomed the decision by Cosgarne Hall not to proceed with controversial plans to open a move on facility for people with chaotic lifestyles in a residential area of Newquay.
Commenting, Steve said:
“I am pleased that the people behind Cosgarne Hall in St Austell have listened to the concerns raised by local residents, business, organisations, councillors and myself and have made the sensible decision not to proceed with opening a move on facility in Newquay.”
“I accept that we all have a responsibility to assist those people who have for a variety of reasons fallen into problems with drug and alcohol addiction and the associated behaviour issues that these habits can lead to.”
“But this proposal was not the right one. We had significant concerns about its location, in a residential area, close to schools and nurseries, and concerns about its operation given past and ongoing issues with a similar facility in St Austell.”
“I will continue to support the excellent work of charities such as St Petroc's who do excellent work with the homeless in Newquay, and am pleased that on this occasion common sense and the will of the people has been listened to and the right decision made.”
