Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has welcomed confirmation from the Secretary of State for Education of a funding increase for schools across the constituency.
Schools across Mid-Cornwall will be getting an average funding increase of 5.9%, the highest in Cornwall and significantly higher than the national average increase of 4%.
Commenting, Steve said:
“With schools returning full time in September with new measures necessary due to the COVID-19 crisis, it has never been more important to ensure our schools are properly funded.”
“I am pleased to see our schools in Mid-Cornwall receive a funding increase which is well above the national average, this will further close the funding gap for our local schools which have for too long received below average levels.”
“In particular I am pleased to see the recognition of costs for funding small rural schools with several such as St Wenn receiving much larger increases to reflect the increased costs of operating them.”
“When I was elected I made securing better funding for schools one of my priorities and I am pleased we are making further progress on this. I will continue to do all I can to ensure our schools have the support they need to deliver the best education possible for our young people.”
