Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has welcomed a cash injection from the Department for Transport to help upgrade the dangerous stretch of the A3058 between Newquay and St Austell.
Today the Department for Transport announced a £175m package of funding to help upgrade roads proved to be dangerous across the country, with 6.8km of the A3058 road between St Austell and Newquay included earmarked for an upgrade.
Commenting, Steve said:
“As someone who has driven the A3058 between St Austell and Newquay regularly throughout my life I know what a dangerous section of road this is. It is also an issue that local residents have often raised with me. I have raised concerns about this road many times since my election and I am pleased that Mid-Cornwall is to get a decent share of the £175m funding to fix dangerous roads.”
“This funding is seriously good news and will enable this road to be upgraded, improved and made safer for local drivers. I am delighted that the funding is being made available and I will now work with Cornwall Council and the Government to ensure it is well spent to make the best possible improvements.”
