Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has welcomed the launch of the Community Emergency Fund from Sport England.
This new fund aims to help community sport and physical activity organisations who are experiencing short term financial hardship or the ceasing of operations due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Commenting, Steve said:
“At this difficult time it is important that organisations that support the nation to be active do not have to close because of short term financial issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“I welcome the launch of Sport England’s Community Emergency Fund, which aims to deliver immediate funding to those organisations most in need, and encourage sports clubs and similar groups across Mid-Cornwall to apply if they need this assistance.”
The types of organisations eligible include local sports clubs forced to close at short notice but who are facing ongoing costs around maintenance and utility bills, and voluntary and community sector organisations who deliver or enable sport and physical activity.
The Community Emergency Fund is designed to complement other sources of funding from the government, such as funds targeted at small businesses.
