Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has welcomed the announcement by the Secretary of State today that Cornwall Airport Newquay is one of several regional airports being considered to gain a route from Heathrow under the Draft Airports National Policy Statement Consultation.
Writing today, the Secretary of State for Transport said:
“The need for additional capacity is clear. A Northwest Runway at Heathrow Airport will provide the greatest economic and employment benefits, delivering tens of thousands of additional local jobs by 2030 and up to £61bn of economic benefits… over 60 years… The benefits of the scheme will be felt by businesses and passengers across the UK.”
Commenting, Steve said:
“It is great to see Cornwall Airport Newquay already potentially benefiting from the expansion at Heathrow. I am pleased to see that there is a local event planned in Newquay on 10 April as part of the consultation process and will continue to work with the excellent management team at the airport to promote its growth and development, which is good for not only Newquay but the whole of Cornwall.”
