Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, has welcomed today’s announcement from the Secretary of State for Transport that the Government will be committing further extensive funding to increase the resilience of the south-west rail network.
Commenting, Steve said:
“It was great to see the Secretary of State for Transport today commit to an additional £10 million funding as part of the stage of development work on the Dawlish line.”
“This funding again shows that this Government is absolutely committed to making sure that the South West infrastructure is improved and we never again see a situation such as what happened following the storms of 2014.”
“I am pleased to see this investment, as the next step in these much needed improvements. There is still much more to do here and along with my Cornish MP colleagues I will continue to push the Government for further road, rail and air infrastructure investment for Cornwall.”
The £10m will go towards the preparation of a Transport and Works Act planning submission for the work on the Teignmouth cliffs, to follow on from the £5m funding for a further year’s development that was secured in the March 2016 budget.
