Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, has welcomed the news that teams from the two principle towns in the constituency have bid successfully for government funding to help in regenerating coastal communities.
Along with each area being awarded £10,000 to kick-start work, the 116 Coastal Community Teams will also be able to bid for up to a £50,000 share of a new £3 million Coastal Revival Fund to support or restore local heritage and facilities which benefit the wider community and the surrounding economy.
Commenting, Steve said:
“I am delighted that teams from St Austell and Newquay towns have been successful in bidding for some of the more than £1 million funding the Government has provided to fund further Coastal Community Teams. By bringing together local businesses, local leaders and volunteers, our Coastal Community Teams will help tap into our great local heritage and make the most of our stunning seaside assets to make a success of the tourist trade, which is such a major part of our economy. The teams will also help ensure local people have the skills and opportunities so that they benefit from the new jobs and investment too.
“This will help bring jobs, growth and prosperity to our local towns. I have written to the teams, pledging my support and hope to work with them to bring together local business, councils and people to coordinate regeneration projects moving forward.”
Each Coastal Community Team will now be given £10,000 of grant funding to help them establish themselves as a group and develop their Economic Plan for the area, which the Government has asked to be published by the end of January 2016.
