Steve Double, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for St Austell and Newquay attended a public meeting earlier this month in Gorran regarding the proposal for Cornwall Council to erect two wind turbines on land they own at Trevascus Farm.
Details of the Pre-planning application can be found here
Commenting on the meeting, Steve said,
‘It was clear from the strength of feeling at the meeting and a number of local residents that have contacted me that there is overwhelming opposition to these turbines.’
‘Whatever the views of wind turbines as a source of renewable energy, I believe that areas such as this need to be allowed to retain their unique and beautiful character for local residents and tourists alike. This is especially true of sites so close to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From speaking to local businesses it is clear that many, especially those involved in tourism, are very concerned at the negative effect more turbines would have. ‘
‘I have already been able to support a number of communities across this area who have been fighting proposals for wind turbines and I will do all I can to support the people of Gorran and the surrounding area.’
‘Cornwall Council exists to serve the people of Cornwall and I will do all I can to make them aware of the feelings of local residents and urge them to stop these proposals immediately.’
