Steve Double, Cornish Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for the local St Austell and Newquay seat, was centre stage at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham this week.
On Monday afternoon Steve hosted the conference session covering the Department for Work and Pensions and Communities and Local Government. This involved Steve speaking at the start of the session and then introducing the speakers which included the Cabinet Ministers Francis Maude and Eric Pickles.
Speaking after the event Steve said, ‘it was a complete surprise when I was called last week and invited to host this session. I counted it a real honour to be asked and I was delighted to be able to play a small part in the conference this week.
One of the challenges of being a candidate is raising your profile and getting noticed. Hopefully my appearance on the main stage will continue to not only raise my profile within the party, but also the profile of Cornwall within the Government. It was a real honour to be on the stage and I hope people think I did well.’
The Conservative Party Conference, which started on Sunday, will finish on Wednesday with the Prime Minister’s speech. Steve continued, ‘Conference is always a great time, but it is particularly important this year as we are all now on the final approach to the General Election. I believe we are in a great position, both to get me elected as the MP for St Austell and Newquay, and also to form the next Government in order to continue the important work we have begun over the past 4 ½ years. I will be heading back to Cornwall on Wednesday and I will then be full steam ahead on the campaign trail until the 7th May.’
