Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has today welcomed the decision by Cornwall Council’s Central Planning Committee to turn down an application for a wind turbine near Grampound.
Commenting, Steve said,
“This application has been one of the most contentious that I have seen, and I had been contacted by a large number of local residents voicing their total opposition for this turbine. Mid Cornwall, and Grampound in particular, already has more than its fair share of wind turbines. In my election campaign I stated that I would work to protect Cornwall’s unique landscape. I have been working with the residents of Grampound to resist this application and I am glad that Cornwall Council’s Central Planning Committee has today agreed with the vast majority of local residents in turning this application down. Grampound is a unique and wonderful village that is in a conservation area. As such it should be protected from the negative visual impact more wind turbines would cause.
The new Conservative Government has made it clear that it will follow through on its Manifesto commitment to end subsidies for costly and ineffective onshore wind, as well as ensuring that support from the communities in which applications such as this are based is an important contributory factor as to whether they are passed or not. I will continue to work with colleagues both in Cornwall and in Westminster to ensure that these changes are made.”
