Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, has welcomed legislation that will exempt operators of public toilets from having to pay business rates, which is due to be passed through Parliament today.
Commenting, Steve said:
“I am delighted to have led the campaign, along with my Cornish MP colleagues to stop operators of public toilets having to pay business rates.”
“These are unnecessary charges for toilets which can set operators, often already hard-pressed town and parish councils, back thousands of pounds and mean the difference between keeping these vital facilities open and them closing.”
“Today’s legislation will mean operators of toilets don’t have to spend their pennies to allow other people to spend a penny, and I am pleased to have played my part in getting it through Parliament.”
