I was pleased to welcome the Minister for Tourism, Helen Grant MP to the Eden Project.
As we all know tourism continues to be the biggest and most important sector of our local economy. In recent years it has suffered as a result of the recession and last year the damage to the railway line at Dawlish.
I was able to raise a number of concerns with the Minister including the recent decision by the Liberal Democrat and Independent administration at Cornwall Council to withdraw funding for Visit Cornwall. It was good to hear confirmation of the Conservative Party’s continued support for Cornwall’s tourism industry including through investment in our transport infrastructure.
Commenting on her visit the Minister said
“I was thrilled to visit the Eden Project with Steve Double, our brilliant PPC for St Austell and Newqauy. The Eden Project is a wonderful tourist attraction which is not only breathtaking in appearance, but is educational too.
“It's not surprising the Eden Project attracts large crowds of visitors on a regular basis and I'm excited to see how it develops further given their great plans for the future.”
“Steve will be a fantastic MP for St Austell and Newquay and a strong voice for the local area”
