“Cheers!” Steve Double MP toasts the Chancellor following announcement that pubs across the UK to benefit from £1,000 business rates discount

Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has welcomed the news from Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid that pubs across the UK will benefit from £1,000 business rates discount from April.

The cut is on top of previously announced plans to slash the bills of small shops by 50%.

The relief will come on top of an extended retail discount, which smaller pubs are also eligible for. Those eligible for both reliefs will get up to £13,500 off their annual bills.

As many as 18,000 pubs are expected to benefit from the discount.

Commenting, Steve said:

“Throughout my time as Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, and with St Austell Brewery a prominent Mid-Cornwall employer, I have been a firm supporter of measures to help our brewers and pubs flourish.”

“This announcement will undoubtedly do just that and I am sure that are many landlords across the St Austell and Newquay constituency raising a glass to the Chancellor this evening, Cheers!”

Commenting, Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid said:

“Thousands of pubs will get £1,000 off their rates bills this April, thanks to the changes we’re announcing today.”

“These will mean lower rates for the small independent shops, cafes and locals at the heart of our communities, as well as for the local papers that are a vital pillar in local democracy.”
