Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) Minister Therese Coffey has today joined St Austell and Newquay Member of Parliament Steve Double in praising progress made in Cornwall in going #plasticfree
Speaking in DEFRA Questions in Parliament today, Steve highlighted to the Minister the communities across Cornwall, including Newquay, that are seeking to reduce their use of single use plastics by joining the ‘Plastic Free’ campaign, with Cornwall leading the way across the UK in this change.
In response the Minister joined with Steve in welcoming the progress being made across Cornwall.
Speaking after the debate, Steve said:
“I am pleased to have been able to raise the incredible progress being made across Cornwall in the push towards a more sustainable way of life.”
“All parts of our communities are joining together in the fight against single use plastics, which often end up polluting our beautiful marine environments, and it’s great that I was able to highlight this with the Minister.”
“There is lots more work to do and I will continue to do all I can to raise the profile of this issue and ensure real, tangible progress is made at every level in reducing the use of single use plastics in our lives.”
