“I understand how worrying this will be for many households in Cornwall and am in regular contact with residents on this issue.
The Government has already in past months made help available but clearly this is an evolving situation and we need to look at what more can be done.
I have already made it clear to both candidates to be the next Prime Minister that taking further steps to support hard-pressed residents, and businesses – particularly SME’s who the cap does not apply to, should be a priority.
This is something I have continued discussions with Ministerial colleagues with over the summer and I will be pressing whoever the new Prime Minister is to put further support in place, particularly for those who will least be able to afford this increase - those on low wages, benefits, and pensioners as well as finding ways to provide additional support for business.
I will continue to do all I can to highlight the concerns of those who have contacted me and work with the Government to ensure their support is continued and increased as a matter of urgency.”
