Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, has welcomed the decision by Cornwall Council today to invest more than £1m into the deep geothermal project near Par.
Commenting, Steve said:
“I have long backed the potential of developing a geothermal energy plant at the Eden Project and have worked with the government to secure funding to support this scheme. Only yesterday I met with the Energy Minister to discuss the progress of this scheme. It’s great to see Cornwall Council vote to support it and provide some of the funding that will be needed.”
“Once built this plant could power the Eden Project plus 4000 homes with renewable, green energy and help us with the goal of living more sustainably in the future.”
“A great step forward for Mid-Cornwall and I look forward to continuing to work with the government, EGS, the Eden Project and Cornwall Council to deliver it.”
