St Austell and Newquay’s MP Steve Double has today met with CEO of Virgin Orbit Dan Hart.
Speaking following the meeting, Steve said:
“I was pleased to welcome Dan Hart to Parliament today to discuss the positive progress made ahead of the planned first launch of a satellite in the UK, from Spaceport Cornwall, later this summer.”
“Since my election as MP for Mid-Cornwall I have worked hard with Government colleagues and Cornwall Council to make the Spaceport Cornwall project a reality, one that will give much-needed economic investment and bring well-paid, high-skilled jobs to Cornwall, and it is great to be working with a partner in Virgin Orbit, that understands this.”
“These are exciting times for Mid-Cornwall as well as Virgin Orbit, and I am committed to ensuring there is continued interest and support from government to ensure more launches from our spaceport in the future.”
Dan Hart, CEO OF Virgin Orbit said:
“With a rocket in production and active preparations underway in Newquay, momentum is building for a 1st UK space launch.”
“It was Good to catch up with Steve Double, one of the leaders who began this journey to create the first UK portal to space.”
There is still much to do but the combined UK-US team is driving forward mightily.”
