Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has today met with Mevagissey fishermen to discuss their views on the UK’s current negotiations with the EU on future fisheries management.
The fishermen requested the meeting, along with the Cornwall Fish Producers Organisation (CFPO), to discuss the current ongoing annual negotiations between the UK and the EU on the future numbers of different species of fish that can be landed.
Commenting, Steve said:
“The fishermen of Mevagissey are vital to the local economy and community of this part of Cornwall and it is important that their voices are heard as part of the annual negotiations between the UK and the EU on the different species of fish that can be caught and landed.”
“As the negotiations for the next rounds of fishing quota are under way I wanted to ensure I understood the views and concerns of our local fishing community to ensure they are fed back to the Minister and his team properly.”
“It was a helpful and productive visit and I will be meeting with the Minister as soon as possible to ensure he is aware of the priorities of the fishermen of Mevagissey.”
