Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, last week met with farmers from across Mid-Cornwall as part of an NFU Countryside day.
NFU Countryside celebrates all that is great about the British countryside, from our beautiful landscapes, to Britain's fascinating flora and fauna, and the farmers who bring us our food.
Their key purpose is to stress that the British countryside is a living, working environment and focuses on those who live and work in the countryside – the farmers, vets, farriers, small business owners and smallholders that make the place tick.
Commenting, Steve said:
“It was great to join with farmers along with representatives from Cornwall Council, the Environment Agency and Barclays Bank to take part in the NFU Countryside day at Tregolls Farm.”
“Our farmers and the agricultural sector in general are such an important part of the economy in Mid-Cornwall and I hold regular meetings with the NFU to better understand the issues they face and how I can best support them both locally and in Westminster.”
“This was a thoroughly enjoyable and incredibly helpful event which included a tour of the farm and a full discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing our farming community post -Brexit.”
“Thank you to Phillip Hawkey, whose family have farmed Tregolls Farm for generations for being such a great host.”
