Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has today secured a meeting with Floods Minister Robbie Moore to discuss a flood prevention scheme for Mawgan Porth.
Speaking in Parliament today during DEFRA questions, Steve called for the meeting, after highlighting recent flood prevention successes in the St Austell and Newquay constituency, mentioning the STARR Project for Par and St Blazey and Pentewan flood defence scheme.
In response the Minister, who had previously visited the STARR scheme, said that he would be happy to meet with Steve in order to discuss how to take a scheme for Mawgan Porth forward.
Speaking after the debate, Steve said:
βI was shocked to see the flooding in Mawgan Porth in March and sadly this is not an uncommon occurrence. I have been working with Cornwall Council for some time to explore options to reduce the risk of flooding at Mawgan Porth but progress has been painfully slow for a number of reasons.β
βIn Parliament today I was pleased to highlight recent positive flood protection success stories in our constituency but also make the case to the Minister that more needs to be done at Mawgan Porth. I am pleased that he has agreed to meet with me and I look forward to working with him and all involved to get a positive outcome for Mawgan Porth.β
