Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, has secured £2.3m of Government funding from the Housing Infrastructure Fund for the West Carclaze Garden Village.
Earlier today, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP confirmed the funding, welcomed Steve’s support for the scheme and the wider plans for economic growth and providing much needed housing in Mid Cornwall – citing that it will help provide the infrastructure needed to deliver the Garden Village development.
Commenting, Steve said:
“I am delighted that the Government has listened to the bid that has been put forward and my calls for infrastructure funding and awarded millions more to help deliver this landmark scheme, on former industrial land. This funding comes on top of securing a new primary school, public amenity space, £79million for a new link road and the Carluddon Technology Park.
“This goes with the more than half a million pounds of funding that the Government previously has provided to assist in the delivery of this development since 2016.”
“I have always supported the delivery of more homes for Mid-Cornwall, as there is a pressing need especially for the future of our young people, but my support has always been on the condition that they are in appropriate locations and that we secure the appropriate infrastructure, jobs and investment to go support them. I believe that the Garden Village will achieve this”
“Infrastructure was one of my 6 priorities for our constituency when I was first elected in 2015 and I am pleased to be able to continue to deliver on this promise. This funding will help in providing the infrastructure and I look forward to continuing to make the case to attract more investment and will do everything I can to ensure this development is the best it can be for the people of Mid-Cornwall.”
