Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay, last week visited St Wenn School to learn about British Gas’s Generation Green scheme.
Generation Green is an education programme run by British Gas for school children, their teachers and their families. The programme provides schools with free of charge learning resources and educational experiences, as well as investing millions of pounds in sustainable energy technologies for schools throughout the UK.
St. Wenn School recently underwent an energy makeover. To help the school reduce its energy use and cut its carbon footprint British Gas installed a biomass boiler, new energy efficiency lighting and insulation measures in the school. They also fitted solar panels so that the school can generate its own energy when the sun is shining. and provided the school with an energy dashboard. This dashboard will show in real time how much electricity is being used and how much is being generated by the solar panels, alongside energy saving tips and other live time energy data.
Commenting, Steve said:
“I was delighted to visit St Wenn School to learn about the energy efficiency measures that have been put in place with the support of British Gas Generation Green scheme. I found the children had a good grasp of the need for saving energy as well as producing power from renewable sources. The Generation Green scheme is not only a great way of helping schools to save money but is also proving to be a very useful educational tool.”
