Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has welcomed the drop in Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) claimants in the constituency.
Commenting Steve said,
‘These figures show real wages growing at the fastest rate since 2007, near record numbers of women in work, and nearly two million more people with the security of a job since 2010. I am glad to see this reflected in our constituency, where just 737 people are now claiming JSA, 414 less than at this time last year with 54% less claiming than in 2010.
Our long term economic plan is working and last week’s Budget will continue to build on the economic growth we are currently experiencing, creating more jobs for people who need them and helping people to keep more of the money they earn.
However we must not be complacent and there is still much more to do. I will continue to work with local businesses to help them create not just more jobs, but jobs that are also more highly skilled and with higher wages ’.
