Steve Double, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for St Austell and Newquay, has welcomed the recent progress made by First Great Western to provide major improvements to their high speed South West rail fleet.
Rail minister Claire Perry recently visited the South West to see how station and train improvements will boost capacity and provide more comfortable and convenient journeys for passengers across the region. The changes to the High Speed fleet will see 3,000 additional standard class seats provided, with more tables, and free WiFi from early 2015.
Commenting, Steve said, ‘the high speed Paddington to Penzance train is an increasingly important arterial route for commuters to and from Cornwall, both for business and leisure, and it is great to see First Great Western putting their money where their mouth is and investing £13 million in their High Speed Fleet. It is particularly heartening to see, in this digital age in which we live, the importance of provision of free WiFi on long rail journeys being recognized and acted upon’.
‘The Conservative-led Government’s Long Term Economic Plan is working, and looking forward to 2015, I hope to join Conservative colleagues in Westminster in solidifying these important infrastructural links between Cornwall and the rest of the UK for all to utilize going forward.’
