Organisations in Mid-Cornwall will be eligible to apply for a share of the £368 million Youth Investment Fund (YIF) announced recently as part of the Government’s Levelling Up package.
The Fund’s objective is to create, expand and improve local youth facilities and their services, in order to drive a number of positive outcomes for young people and their communities. The fund forms a core part of the Government’s £560 million investment in young people, including the new National Youth Guarantee: that by 2025, every young person in England will have access to regular out of school activities, adventures away from home and opportunities to volunteer.
The guarantee responds directly to what around 6,000 young people told us to prioritise in the DCMS Youth Review.
● Improving health and wellbeing of young people
● Equipping young people with skills for work and life
● Empowering young people to be active members of their communities and society
● Levelling up of provision in ‘left behind’ areas
The money will be made available across the next three financial years - 2022/2023 to 2024/2025 - for facilities from which open access services for young people can be delivered.
In St Austell and Newquay the Cornwall Council divisions Bugle and Roche, St Stephen-in-Brannel and St Austell Central and Gover have been identified as areas where young people will particularly benefit from support offered.
Commenting, St Austell and Newquay’s Member of Parliament Steve Double said:
“I am pleased to see that organisations in Mid-Cornwall will soon be eligible to apply for a share of the Youth Investment Fund, which will provide life transforming experiences for young people in some of our most deprived communities, in their formative years.”
“I look forward to seeing the application process open and encourage organisations in these areas or that support young people from them to bid for this funding when it does.”
