Newquay and St Austell MP Steve Double joined political colleagues as well as a raft of local radio presenters at Charlestown Academy in St Austell for the official launch of Digital radio.
The event saw presenters from Radio Cornwall, Heart and Pirate FM as well as dignitaries from the broadcasting world join Head Teacher Mark Clutsom for the live broadcast.
Mr Clutsom was delighted to be chosen as the host venue for this landmark day in Digital broadcasting:
“We are honoured to welcome some of the biggest names in Cornish broadcasting today for this very special event. I’m also delighted to welcome our local MP Mr Steve Double, a frequent visitor to the school.”
Commenting, Steve said:
“We’ve worked very hard to achieve this as part of the Government’s goal to ensure that people throughout Cornwall get the best possible radio coverage. As we all know, especially in and around the coastline that signal strength varies enormously.
“After today anyone with a DAB radio should get to enjoy the station of their choice in the best possible quality in more locations than ever before. The bonus is not only to locals, of course but to all the visitors joining us in the county for their holidays.”
