Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has welcomed yesterday’s announcement by Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Amber Rudd of £100,000 government funding for a life-changing Jobcentre Plus project in Cornwall.
The funding follows a successful pilot in Cornwall that allowed Work Coaches at Cornwall’s jobcentres to refer people with mental health conditions to specialist one to one support, without the need for a GP or clinical assessment.
Yesterday’s announcement means this initiative can continue throughout Cornwall.
Commenting Steve said:
“I am delighted to see that this pilot has proved successful and subsequently more funding has been made available to further assist vulnerable claimants and allow Jobcentre Plus to help them in getting treatment for mental health issues.”
“This is a common-sense solution. I am pleased to see mental health conditions once again highlighted and Cornwall leading the way. I hope that this scheme will now be considered to be rolled out across the country as good practice throughout Jobcentre Plus.”
