“I continue to be contacted by many local constituents about the number of tourists who appear to still be heading to Cornwall. With the Easter weekend now upon us, I am as deeply concerned as everyone about this.”
“I continue to do all I can to get the message out there that people should not be travelling to Cornwall during the COVID-19 pandemic, and have taken part in numerous media interviews, including for three national media outlets today.”
“Despite numerous campaigns by myself, Cornwall Council, Devon and Cornwall Police, and others, on local and national television, radio, social media and newspapers, it is apparent too many people still think it is OK to flout these rules and guidelines – not helped by certain so-called celebrities posting on social media.”
“For some reason, people seem to not understand the risks in travelling at this time, or think that the restrictions somehow don’t apply to them.”
“They do – they apply to all of us.”
“They are in place for our safety; to keep our families, our elderly and vulnerable and those who work on the frontline of health and care safe.”
“Yesterday I was, again in conversation with the Chief Constable and our Police and Crime Commissioner, with colleagues, to agree on a strategy.”
“One specific concern that has been raised is regards motorhomes and campers. It is a complex issue as there are some who genuinely do live in motorhomes as their primary homes. However, they should be finding a place to stay for the duration of this lockdown and not be travelling around.”
“I am pleased that most holiday accommodation providers have now shut down and are not accepting any bookings for the coming weeks.”
“However, if anyone is aware of any holiday accommodation that is still open, they can be reported to Cornwall Council who are taking action via businessadvice@cornwall.gov.uk
Any people publicly flouting the guidelines can be reported to the police via 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk “
“Have a happy Easter in the safety of your home. We will get through this if we stick together and follow the Government guidance to Stay at Home.”
