The Government has confirmed that Cornwall College’s St Austell campus will be transformed after getting a share of a £1.6 billion pot from the Department for Education which will be split between 16 colleges across the country.
Cornwall College will receive significant investment from the Government’s Further Education Capital Transformation Fund to build a new modern campus at St Austell to support the delivery of higher and further education including T Levels, apprenticeships and skills for local jobs.
Working with Cornwall College Principal John Evans, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay Steve Double has been leading calls for investment into the vital further education facility.
Steve said:
“I am delighted that work can now begin to transform and upgrade Cornwall College’s St Austell campus.”
“This is something I have worked on for a long time with both Cornwall College and my Government colleagues.”
“It is an important step to safeguard the further education provision in St Austell for current and future students not only here in the town but across Cornwall, and will also bring wider benefits to the town.”
“The upgrading of further education facilities at the St Austell campus will ensure students receive a high-quality education, wherever they live, so they can gain the skills they need to secure the jobs and help the economy.”
“This transformation project will give young people in St Austell and Cornwall a real choice and John Evans and the team at the college should be proud of what they have achieved for the town.”
